This season, much like many of the past for Real Madrid has been plagued with injuries, which has caused the team to lack chemistry and has cost them results in key matches, which has led to a disappointing season after many fans had high expectations heading in.
As mentioned earlier, the sheer amount of injuries in the squad this season has caused head coach Carlo Ancelotti to deploy makeshift teams at times, playing players out of their natural position to a bag of mixed results.
The defense is the area most affected by these injuries, which has caused Ancelotti to rely on others to step up and fill the gaps left.
One player in particular that he has called on more than any other has not been performing at a level anywhere close to what he needs to to continually be included in the starting lineup.
Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez must not play against Barcelona
If Real Madrid hope to come out victorious in this weekend's Copa del Rey Final against Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti should change his lineup and exclude Lucas Vazquez at right-back, as he has clearly been a weak link in the starting lineup.
Vazquez has had to fill in for the injured Dani Carvajal who has been out for several months with an ACL injury and let's just say that it is obvious that Vazquez is no Carvajal.
While that is to be expected as right-back is not Vazquez's natural position, his performances have still been quite shocking at times, showing he is the clear weak link in the backline.
Given the size of the stage and the stakes up for grabs, it would be in the best interest of Real Madrid to play Fede Valverde at right-back where he has had a number of solid performances this season when called on to play in the backline.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are dealing with injuries to key players ahead of this weekend's Final, it is really up for grabs and a great chance for Los Blancos to close out a disappointing season with a major trophy.
