Cristiano Ronaldo's unhinged era is painful for Real Madrid fans to watch

Cristiano Ronaldo's last interview with Piers Morgan led to his exit from Manchester United. Whilst his most recent one with the journalist may not be as explosive, he may still have upset some of the supporters of another one of his former clubs.

Ronaldo starred for Real Madrid, where he scored 311 goals in 292 La Liga games. However, he told Morgan, which has been quoted by Fabrizio Romano, "For me it’s more easy to score goals in Spain, in La Liga… than score in Saudi."

The Portuguese soccer legend has found the back of the net 82 times for Al-Nassr in 84 matches in the Saudi Pro League. There is no doubt that La Liga is a higher standard than the Saudi Pro League; it is just that Ronaldo is now 40, whereas he was playing for Real Madrid in his prime.

Ronaldo also says that "The Saudi League is much better than Portuguese league and also better than Ligue1 as it’s only PSG." There is an elephant in the room that Ronaldo has his rival, Lionel Messi, in the back of his mind. Having a go at Messi's former club, PSG, is just one dig that Ronaldo makes.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo still obsessed with Lionel Messi?

Some consider Messi as better than Ronaldo due to the fact that the Argentine has won the World Cup. Ronaldo is yet to do so, but could get one more opportunity to do so in North America next year.

The Portugal international also tells Morgan that "Winning the World Cup it’s not a dream. People say like: Cristiano would be the greatest if he wins the World Cup. I don’t agree! I won three titles with Portugal already. We won nothing before those three titles."

Real Madrid fans will remember the time when Ronaldo was up against Messi's Barcelona in El Clásico matches. However, that was nearly eight years ago, with Ronaldo leaving for Juventus in 2018.

Real Madrid have moved on and have since signed other world-class players, including Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. However, Ronaldo seems to be obsessed with justifying the standard of the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo is past his best and is no longer the flying winger he was at Real Madrid. It is a credit that he has switched to an out-and-out center-forward. However, making comments downplaying the standard in La Liga and therefore his time at Real Madrid is not a way to keep his old supporters onside.
