Dean Huijsen has been one of Real Madrid’s better players so far this season. He started everything off well, reminded Real Madrid fans of how his season derailed last season by having another bad Madrid derby, but then has been able to pick his season back up.
Real Madrid fans know that Huijsen was not up to the task last season. Despite starting his time at Real Madrid as well as he could have possibly imagined, there were a few instances where he looked out of place. After that defeat to Atletico Madrid, he became a version of himself that no one expected him to become.
After a positive start to his time at the club, he started making errors and became a very inconsistent player at Real Madrid. It is something that fans were scared of seeing happen again. They did not want Huijsen to be in the same situation after the derby, where he started becoming inconsistent once again, and that is luckily not happening.
Dean Huijsen is finally consistent, which is what Real Madrid fans have wanted
If we compare the two seasons and what led to Huijsen’s bad form last time around, everything happened immediately after the game against Atletico Madrid. In the matches that he played for Real Madrid after that game, he was average at best and pretty poor at worst, and he took a while before he was able to bounce back. This season, he has bounced back immediately.
A match against Atletico Madrid that he was playing well in ultimately saw him get a red card in the second half and essentially write Real Madrid's defeat there and then. It could have hurt his confidence and forced him into a slump for another few games, just like it did last season, but Huijsen, after a suspension, has bounced back in perfect condition.
He was incredible against Leipzig on Wednesday night, producing seven interceptions and some brilliant ball progression from the left side of defense. Huijsen did not put a foot wrong in that game, and in every other game that he has played so far after the suspension, the Spanish international has looked exactly like the player he was before it, which is a very good thing.
That is the one thing that fans wanted Huijsen to work on during the offseason because everyone knows about the talent that the player has. He has shown that talent on many occasions for the club. What no one has seen from Huijsen is the consistency of a star centre-back. Finally, we are seeing that now, and hopefully it continues for the foreseeable future.
