With the phenom Thiago Pitarch taking his place as a key member of the squad and now a sure fire starter for Alvaro Arbeloa, Eduardo Camavinga had to be feeling the heat around him at Real Madrid when he took one of the starting spots at the base of the midfield against Mallorca in the return to La Liga from the March international break.
But instead of elevating his game with Thiago rested for Bayern Munich and proving his own worth with transfer rumors swirling that Real Madrid may finally be more open to a sale of the Frenchman at the right price, Camavinga has only elevated the credence of the transfer rumors.
Camavinga was one of several disappointing players for Real Madrid against Mallorca, and it was his error of both effort and mental fortitude that cost the opener. Real would go on to lose 2-1, and while Cama did his usual tackling and even looked decent on the ball as a passer, he was unable to help Real Madrid actually control the midfield, nor did he show an improved understanding of spacing and defending off the ball.
Eduardo Camavinga is trending closer to a sale
Throughout the years, Camavinga has shown no growth since being a sparklug for both Rennes and Real Madrid in the early days, and now the young quarter from Castilla are lapping him, especially in intensity and their reading of the game.
Manu de Juan of Diario AS reports that PSG are still circling around Eduardo Camavinga with interest in the player they lost out on to Madrid back in 2021 during the first Kylian Mbappe saga, and Real Marid are themselves open to a sale.
After Alvaro Arbeloa and the club's bigger decision makers watched Camavinga turn in another underwhelming performance with the same lapses in judgment, they have to be looking at his situation with more openness to a sale.
Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde are far superior box to box players, while Real Madrid are planning on bringing back Nico Paz from Como and adding a more deep lying playmaker to support Aurelien Tchouameni. With Manuel Angel and Thiago Pitarch showing better understanding and even effort than Camavinga, the writing may be on the wall for Cama to back to France or even to try out a Premier League Big Six side in need of a midfielder with his profile.
Camavinga is a great player, but he is not world class. And he is not a weekly starter for Madrid. At this rate, Real are looking at his development and probably thinking if he remains in this situation, he will never be world class. Like Martin Odegaard, the pastures may be greener for Cama elsewhere.
