Fabrizio Romano crushes Real Madrid fans' Erling Haaland transfer hopes (or did he?)

Enrique Riquelme shocked Real Madrid fans, which is honestly hard to do these days with all that has happened around the club this season, by waving around not only an Erling Haaland Real Madrid jersey on television but also a signed contract purporting that he has an agreement with the Norwegian superstar.

Real Madrid supporters were not buying it one bit. After all, Haaland plays for another one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester City, and while the Citizens are more open to selling big stars, like Rodri, after Pep Guardiola's departure, Haaland has always been irreplaceable and off limits as the world's best pure goal scorers.

But then, transfer insiders around Real Madrid started reporting that Haaland has a release clause in his Manchester City contract, with Edu Aguirre of El Chiringuito even stating that Erling Haaland and his father met with Enrique Riquelme in Marbella over the weekend and put pen to paper on a verbal agreement to join Madrid if Riquelme were to beat Florentino Perez.

The waters are very muddy with Erling Haaland to Real Madrid

Just as soon as Aguirre went on television to report that on El Chiringuito, Fabrizio Romano has tweeted an official joint statement from both Haaland's father and his agent Rafaela Pimienta denying these transfer rumors as nothing more than entertainment.

The statement reads, All very entertaining but not true. We wish all the best for both candidates in the Real Madrid electionsā€.

Because of how incredulous the story seems, Real Madrid fans will be inclined to believe the words of an official statement from Erling Haaland's representation themselves. At the same time, any veteran football fan, especially one of Real Madrid, has learned never to take the obvious at face value when this crazy club is involved.

We have seen many people over the years deny an official deal, including Jose Mourinho himself on the Florentino Perez side of things, because they do not want to disrespect their current club or lend credence to something that may fall through.

If Enrique Riquelme does not win, then Erling Haaland will not want people to think that he wanted to leave Manchester City or that he disrespected Florentino by aligning with his rival. That is the biggest lose-lose scenario and is a very likely one since Riquelme is a huge underdog. In that case, Haaland would lose credibility with both his current club Manchester City and also his hopes of joining Real Madrid as his future club if Flo felt disrespected. So yes, Jim Carrey, there is a half a percent of a chance.
