Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is going to miss even more game time due to illness, the club confirmed in a recent statement.
There have been multiple rumors and conversations surrounding Asencio these days, with the Spaniard having not played many minutes since Alvaro Arbeloa arrived at the club to replace Xabi Alonso.
Asencio, earlier this season, missed games due to a calf injury. He also missed games due to a fever, a head injury, but has also seen some games as an unused substitute.
It is clear that Arbeloa prefers the other central defenders at the club right now, as Asencio is barely getting a look in.
Forgotten Real Madrid player is going to miss even more game time
Now, he will miss at least one more game due to acute gastroenteritis. Asencio is believed to have lost around six kilograms, and wants to find out the cause of this entire problem for him.
However, there is no timetabled return for the Spaniard at the moment, with the definitive outcome for now being his unavailability for the clash against Alaves on Tuesday night.
It is certain that Arbeloa, in his press conference on Monday regarding the La Liga game, will be asked about Asencio, to which he would hopefully make a detailed statement on how long the player will be out for.
The thing with Asencio that many don't understand is the rate at which he is playing these games.
Even when he is fit, there is just no way that Asencio is even getting a look in to start for Real Madrid. He missed a few games due to the problems with his calf, but there have been games where he has just genuinely not played at all despite being fit.
In fact, Asencio was publicly asked about his lack of minutes while posing for pictures with fans in his car a few days ago, and all he said was for the fans to ask that same question to Arbeloa instead.
It was obviously a huge story at the time, but it is clear: Arbeloa, at the moment, is not Asencio's biggest fan. It could be down to whatever reason. It could also simply be Arbeloa wanting to start his trustworthy, match-fit defenders in the biggest games of the season over an Asencio who has had a couple of knocks here and there.
Maybe it is something deeper, but time will tell how much Asencio is able to play whenever he does return from his illness.
