Real Madrid have had so many players who can make the all-time XI of any team in history. It is genuinely scary just how much talent the club has boasted all this time, and it only gets better with so many great players like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.
One of those players was Guti, who was, on his day, one of the best creative midfielders in world football. Just the passing range he had, combined with the vision, made him one of my favorite football players of all time.
He was always class, he always had those moments that brought out the oohs and aahs from the crowd.
However, his all-time, or 'ideal' Real Madrid XI is another debate.
Recently, he was asked to make an all-time XI for Los Blancos, and most of the choices were obviously brilliant, but some I was not too keen on.
Guti's 'ideal' Real Madrid XI was very amusing
When asked about the lineup, Guti said the following:
Courtois; Michel Salgado, Manolo Sanchis, Fernando Hierro, Marcelo; Bellingham, Figo, Guti; Rodrygo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius Jr
Now, I love all the players listed. All of them are brilliant, but some of the choices for his ideal XI, like having Rodrygo there instead of prime Gareth Bale. Also, while I am the biggest fan of Jude Bellingham, he only joined a season ago.
Or, for example, not including players like Luka Modric and Zinedine Zidane in midfield - it is quite amusing. Luis Figo is listed as a midfielder when he could have been moved to the right to make space for one of Real Madrid's all-time great midfielders as well.
There is also the weird exclusion of Sergio Ramos. Ramos is one of the best central defenders in the history of sport, he probably should have been there.
I guess it is more about his 'ideal XI' than an all-time XI, but even then, some of the choices are a bit confusing. Maybe he was asked to do an XI where he had to include a few current players, which would make sense.
It is his opinion, of course, but it is a bit surprising to see some of the more recent players make the list while legends like Zidane have been omitted.
