If there's one thing synonymous with Real Madrid it's comebacks. No matter how out of favor the scoreline is, Real Madrid can never be ruled out of pulling off the unthinkable and pulling out a remarkable comeback on any given night.

Famously the kings of the Champions League comebacks, who could forget La Decima against Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League Final, Cristiano Ronaldo's hat trick against Wolfsburg in 2016, the three incredible comebacks in the 21/22 additions against PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City, and Joselu's two last minute goals against Bayern Munich last season.

Los Blancos never like to make it easy for themselves and starting from behind seemingly makes them play better to give the fans the epic comeback they all expect. However, Real's prospect of a comeback against Arsenal seems like the steepest of uphill climbs.

Currently sitting 3-0 down on aggregate to Arsenal the team has to pull out all the stops on home soil to pull off the most improbable comebacks in the club's history. A three-goal deficit seems like an impossible scoreline to recover from, however, Los Blancos have done it before in the Champions League / European Cup. The downside is that the last of them happened more than four decades ago.

The three times Real Madrid have come back from a three goal deficit in European competitions

Real Madrid have been on the winning end of a three goal comeback three times, all of which happened before any players in the squad were even born. The first happened in the 1975/76 season when Los Blancos matched up against Derby County. The ties ended 4-1 in favor of Derby and 5-1 in favor of Los Blancos.

The second happened in the 1984/85 Europa League where Real lost the first leg to Belgian side Anderlecht 3-0 before a 6-1 hammering in favor of Los Blancos came in the second leg. The third and final three goal comeback happened in the third round of 1985 Europa League which saw Real Madrid win the second leg against Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 after losing the first leg 5-1.

While a three goal deficit seems impossible to comeback from on paper, nothing is impossible when it comes to Real Madrid. The players will be filled with more passion and drive than ever before when the whistle blows at the Santiago Bernabeu as the team looks to pull off magic once again in their favorite competition.
