Real Madrid's hopes of winning the La Liga title are over and that isn't just because of their 1-0 loss to Getafe last night. A humiliating defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu was met with boos from home supporters and is the latest of many lows this season.
Martin Satriano's incredible first-half volley proved to be the winner and both sides ended the game with 10 men after Franco Mastantuono and Adrian Liso were sent off. For Madridistas, that was the last straw in what has been a campaign full of problems.
Alvaro Arbeloa's squad lack fight and that's been on display in recent weeks. To give up a lead at the top of the La Liga table due to losses to Osasuna and now Getafe is a nightmare that will have Barcelona in hysterics.
Barca have by no means been perfect, in fact, Hansi Flick's men are still only four points ahead in the title race. They still have to face Real at Camp Nou on May 10th which does give Arbeloa's side a slight chance of trying to pull off an astonishing title victory.
That said, Madrid's players are already convinced that the Blaugrana will be crowned champions. Cadena SER's Javier Herraez (via Madrid Universal) reports that the message from the locker room is that the only trophy they can now win is the Champions League.
Arbeloa's players are said to be "completely sad and helpless." Their feelings on their defeat to Getafe are indicative of their lack of fighting spirit.
To already be writing off their own La Liga title chances is an extremely concerning mindset. But it's not a surprise given how they have performed this season, putting in dismal displays that have resulted in the likelihood of a trophyless campaign.
Real Madrid players don't care
Wearing Los Merengues' shirt is an honor and to represent the historic Spanish clubs should be the stuff of dreams. This squad seem more focused on themselves than the team and evidence of this came in the aftermath of the Getafe defeat.
According to Spanish outlet El Mundo (via Madrid Zone), Thibaut Courtois was the only Madrid player to go over to the home fans and apologise to them. The Belgian goalkeeper is one of the club's longest-serving players and it speaks volumes of the problems that are taking hold in this young squad.

It's a dark period for Madrid who entered the season anticipating a bright new future under Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard seemed ideal to drive the team forward but rash decisions from the board and player power led to his early sacking in January.
The higher-ups are reportedly having doubts about his replacement Arbeloa whose contract expires at the end of the season. It wouldn't come as a shock to see him dismissed before the season ends.
