Real Madrid are probably going to sign Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer. It is widely expected that the Englishman will be Real Madrid's new right-back next season.
Trent was not the only player who was linked with an exit, however, as their two superstars, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, were also out of contract at the end of the season. They were linked with exits as the two parties were not able to come to terms over a new deal.
However, both of those things have changed. Salah and Van Dijk have renewed with Liverpool, and honestly, it indirectly helps Los Blancos.
If Salah had left Liverpool, the club would have had to look into the market to fill a gaping hole in their attack. They would have to replace their superstar with another brilliant player so that they are able to keep competing in the biggest competitions.
Now, if that happens, there would at least be links with Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. The Brazilian has not been linked with a move to Liverpool in a while, but there were links before, and if Salah were to leave, those links would definitely quadruple.
There is no need for unnecessary 'Rodrygo to leave Real Madrid' rumors
Rodrygo is one of the biggest names in the market, and he is also considered by so many Real Madrid fans as the one who is most likely to leave the club at some point, either due to positional issues or otherwise.
Rodrygo could play on either wing, and if Liverpool were to hypothetically go for him, Slot would've had the option to play him on his preferred wing and get someone else to play on the right.
I am not saying that this would happen. Rodrygo may not even want to move to Liverpool. He has said in the past that he wants to stay at Real Madrid for many more years.
However, the links themselves would bother the player, the club and the fans a lot, which is why Salah signing the contract saves Real Madrid the hassle of crossing that bridge.
Maybe in the future there will be some Premier League clubs that come for Rodrygo - maybe even then, Rodrygo will say no to them - but at least Salah signing the contract delays that by another year or two.
