Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho not only wants to fix the club's troubles at this time, but also wants to make sure that the team does well even after his time at the club is finished.
In a recent interview with Jose Pedrerol, he was asked about his ambitions with the club.
He obviously wants to win titles, but he also wants to make sure that whatever he does remains with the club even after his time is over at Real Madrid.
He wants the managers that will succeed him to have the same amount of success that Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane had after Mourinho gave them the tools to succeed and changed the club's mentality.
He said: “I want to contribute in the present and the future. I want, obviously, to win. I want Real Madrid to win again, which is its natural condition. But, in the same way that I did the first time, I don’t want to change this feeling that a coach’s job is not just the moment, it’s also the preparation of a future.”
Jose Mourinho laid the foundation for Real Madrid's recent Champions League dominance
Real Madrid are in a very similar position right now compared to how it was when Mourinho first joined.
There are a lot of big personalities at the club, but the ambition and the mentality is no longer what it used to be.
Mourinho's biggest job is obviously to fix that, but also to keep that going even after his time is over, so that this group of brilliant players can finally reach their potential and keep winning as a team.
It is obvious that Mourinho would need time and patience to do that, and it will be very interesting to watch the change of mentality for the entire group.
Some of the players that Real Madrid have are the best in their position. Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham are just some of their superstars, but they lack the cohesiveness that, at one point, the group with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain also lacked.
Obviously, there were other differences as well, one of them being that Ronaldo is one of one, and there is no one like him on this team - but the problem was still there.
There was a group of individuals rather than a team, and Mourinho switched that mentality and broke Barcelona's stranglehold on Spanish football.
After that, Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti were able to further improve the group, and they ultimately went on to win five Champions League titles.
It will be interesting to see how it unfolds, and hopefully for the club and the fans, it unfolds the way it did 17 years ago.
