Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has predicted that Real Madrid could be one of the clubs who loiter around signing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
There is certainly a shortage of players who have played for both Real Madrid and Newcastle United. However, the two names who stick out above the short pile are Joselu and Michael Owen. Of course, Real Madrid have Joselu to thank for their Champions League triumph in the 2023/24 season.
Now that Newcastle United have seemingly returned to their glory days, it wouldn't be a surprise to see more players join that list in the future. After all, Real Madrid are in the business of signing the best players in each position, some of which exist at St James Park currently.
While it remains only a prediction at this stage, an Italian journalist has stated Real Madrid might sign a key Newcastle United player.
Journalist predicts that Real Madrid could sign key Newcastle star
According to a report from Spazio Milan, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has predicted that Real Madrid could become interested in signing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United. Alongside Real Madrid could be fellow huge club Manchester City.
In his own words (relayed by Sport Witness), Di Marzio said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Real Madrid could take him, but [Manchester] City could do it too. Sandro [Tonali] is a player who, beyond a possible return to Italy – because he could be happy to return – could have an international outlet on the market.”
The Italian media seems to be campaigning for Sandro Tonali to secure a move away from Newcastle in the next available transfer window. Since it is unlikely to be this month, it is likelier to be in the summer transfer window.
It is important to reiterate that Di Marzio has only offered a prediction. He didn't make it clear whether his prediction was based on any transfer activity from Real Madrid, so we can assume it wasn't.
As it stands, Real Madrid do appear to be in the market for a new midfielder. Despite being impressed by Dani Ceballos' rise to the first team, Los Blancos are in talks with Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich.
However, Real Madrid have never been the type of team to close off all their options until a signing has been completed and joined. So, we could see Sandro Tonali in the future. Let's see.
