Real Madrid are believed to be in preliminary "talks" with Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich. Could Real Madrid sign Alphonso Davies' teammate?
It is within Real Madrid's best interest (and indeed their plans) to sign the best players in the world. As it stands, Los Blancos have the best squad in the world, with brilliant individual players dotted all over the place.
However, one position which Real Madrid currently lack is the holding midfielder role. Ever since Toni Kroos at the end of last season, it is clear to see that Los Blancos have struggled in this position due to the decision not to sign a replacement.
Look, let's not overlook Dani Ceballos' ability to play in the holding midfielder role. It would be shameful and ridiculous of us to do so, given his performances over the last month. However, how sustainable Ceballos is in this position long-term remains to be seen.
Now, a golden opportunity has presented itself to Real Madrid to sign the best possible Toni Kroos replacement.
Real Madrid enter talks with Bayern Munich’s Champions League winner
According to a report from German outlet BILD, Joshua Kimmich is now in talks to sign for Real Madrid. It is believed that his negotiations with Bayern Munich are currently on hold, as Kimmich is considering his options.
Kimmich is under contract at Bayern Munich until the end of this season. The Germany international has been with Bayern Munich since 2015, after signing from RB Leipzig. In a decade, Kimmich has won an impressive eight Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokals and one Champions League.
Kimmich was involved in the UEFA Champions League Squad of the Season twice. He will certainly have ambitions to make this squad at least once more, something which could certainly be achieved at Real Madrid given the earned pedestal of the club.
It would be impossible for us to mention Joshua Kimmich without Trent Alexander-Arnold. The latter is also a transfer target of Real Madrid's and they are almost identical players. Both players can play at right-back and holding midfield.
So, is there room for both Joshua Kimmich and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid.
The answer is absolutely yes. Despite Trent showing a desire to play as a holding-midfielder, Kimmich is much more proven in this position. So, Kimmich is more likely to replace Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, whereas Trent is likelier to operate at right-back.
