Kylian Mbappe's interview in the mixed zone was unexpected, to say the least. And yet, after all that has happened at Real Madrid in the last week or two, this is the exact thing everyone would have expected to see after a routine win.

Real Madrid beat Real Oviedo 2-0 at the Bernabeu on Thursday night, and Mbappe started the game from the bench. When the lineup was first announced, it was clear why the player is not playing - as someone who has not had any minutes in the last few weeks, it made sense to ease him into the squad.

However, that is not how Mbappe saw it. He wanted to play from the start, and even though he showed no problems with Alvaro Arbeloa, the way he spoke made it seem like he was insinuating something that is the complete opposite of the truth.

In that same press conference, Mbappe was also asked about the way the team started playing football and how they were playing in the second half of the season, and even though he mentioned no names, every single Real Madrid fan understood what he was on about.

He said: “We started the season well. Then we lost everything in the second half of the season.

"It hurts a lot, I feel like we had a playing style, a structure, and we lost it.”

It is clear that Mbappe is talking about Xabi Alonso here. Real Madrid, in those few months with Alonso until the Valencia game right after the Clasico, looked like a team. They played aggressive football, and were good on both ends of the pitch.

Mbappe was not just scoring, he was also pressing and getting everyone else to do the same, and it looked really good.

Things happened, and Alonso started losing control of the dressing room bit by bit, and soon after, Arbeloa replaced him as the manager.

To me personally, it made no sense because Real Madrid actually looked good under Alonso, especially when the attack was centred around Kylian Mbappe. Vinicius Jr was playing well, Franco Mastantuono's energy really helped the team, and everything else looked good.

Since that, though, Real Madrid have not looked nearly as good, and it remains to be seen what happens next season.

Whatever the case may be, though, the Frenchman has made it clear, despite not saying anything, which manager he sided with more.
