Liverpool fans fear a case of deja-vu is ensuing that could see their talisman follow Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. There was outrage at Anfield when Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood club for the Spanish capital last summer.

The Anfield faithful believe their former vice-captain has harmed his legacy with the Reds. He won every major trophy during his time on Merseyside and was key in their unbelievable comeback win over Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League winning campaign.

Alexander-Arnold wasn't the first and won't be the last Liverpool man to be linked with a move to Madrid. While a potential move for his former teammate Ibrahima Konate has seemingly been ruled out it appears the La Liga giants are eyeing Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai to Real Madrid talk grows

There have been recent reports suggesting Madrid are weighing up a move for Szoboslzai who is valued by the Reds at £140m. It's even claimed that the club have "opened talks" with the Premier League giants over a swap deal that would see Eduardo Camavinga head to Anfield.

The passionate Kop faihtful have understandbly grown concerned over Szoboszlai's future given contract talk between the player and the club. He is reportedly demanding a new deal which makes him one of their highest earners.

While links to Madrid seemed to be mere speculation, they gained credibility after comments from Szoboszlai's national team manager. Hungary boss Marco Rossi spoke of his captain's childhood 'dream' of representing Los Merengues:

"Szoboszlai always had one single dream in his life: to play for Real Madrid. I've known him since he was a little boy who just started playing, and his dream was always Real Madrid."

The Hungarian has been sensational this season, bagging 10 goals and seven assists in 35 games across competitions. He will have two years left on his contract this summer.

Liverpool fans react to Szoboszlai Real Madrid claim

Rossi's comments were met with worry from Liverpool fans who feel a departure could be on the cards. They watched a similar situation ensue last summer when Alexander-Arnold remained tight-lipped over his future before announcing he'd decided the lure of Madrid was too hard to turn down.

One Kopite alluded to the versatile midfielder's contract situation: "He’s gone! Knowing how stingy Liverpool are, they won’t give him what he wants, but Madrid will. Huge loss for Liverpool."

Another conceded that Szoboszlai's dream will come to fruition: "Once Madrid comes he will leave in a fortnight. Let's enjoy him while he is here."

One understood why the Hungarian might want to make the move: "I will hate it if he leaves but I will understand. People have dreams and ambitions. I will forever be thankful for the season-saver that he has been this season."

Another took aim at Reds boss Arne Slot when explaining why he'd like to leave:

"Why wouldn’t he leave? Go to Madrid and get backed by the front end more than coach gets backed. Stay at Liverpool, one argument with the manager or disagreement and you’ll be on the bench, or even still have play under Slot if you stay."

One pointed out his response to the Kop's treatment of Alexander-Arnold at the end of his Anfield stay: "Well, this doesn’t surprise me. His reaction to Liverpool supporters booing Trent after he told them he was going to leave for Real gave us a clue…"

It should be noted that Szoboszlai hasn't shown any indication that he wants to leave Liverpool. But if Madrid do come calling this summer it will be interesting to see whether he finds a move to the Bernabeu too tempting at this stage of his career.
