Man City are currently tipped to beat Real Madrid to the signing of a €120m transfer, despite Real Madrid willing to pay €180m.
As it stands, Real Madrid and Man City are the two best clubs in the world. They might be in the worst form of the last few years but as they say, form is temporary whereas class is permanent.
There is no doubt in the world that both Real Madrid and Man City will bounce back as Europe's most dominant forces. In fact, it wouldn't come as a surprise if either team lifted the Champions League trophy again this season.
However, when it comes to competing in the transfer window, Man City might have the edge over Real Madrid.
Man City tipped to beat Real Madrid to €120m transfer
According to a report from Caught Offside, Man City are the favourites to sign Florian Wirtz from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. This is despite interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
It is believed that Pep Guardiola being the manager of Man City, at least for another year, is a key reason why Florian Wirtz prefers Man City. With Xabi Alonso expected to leave Leverkusen at the end of this campaign, Wirtz might see Pep as the next catalyst for his improvement.
Florian Wirtz was the central piece for Leverkusen last season. They were one game away from completing a memorable treble win, only losing in the UEFA Europa League final to Atalanta. Still, going the entire Bundesliga season must count for something, with Wirtz the key.
Not only was Wirtz the best player in the Bundesliga this season but he was also the most consistent. It was surprising to see a player of his age show up consistently, even in the biggest games. This, without a doubt, makes him fit for Real Madrid.
However, if his preference is Man City, there is not much Real Madrid can do. Unless, of course, Real Madrid land Xabi Alonso as Carlo's successor, that might change things...
