Following the departures of Casemiro and Luka Modric and the retirement of Toni Kroos, Real Madrid have been trying to build the perfectly balanced midfield trio to be the backbone of the new generation of Los Blancos. The club has tried several midfield combinations but has struggled to find the right balance, which has been a major issue.

Different combinations of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, and Arda Guler have all been tested, but none come close to the perfection that was the Kroos-Casemiro-Modric midfield trio.

As a result the club has been drawing up a shopping list of midfield targets as we approach the summer transfer window as they look for the missing piece to their midfield puzzle. Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly one of the favorites among many higher-ups; however, they have just been handed a massive blow in their pursuit of the player.

Man United eyeing Liverpool star on Real Madrid's radar

As reported by The Daily Star, Manchester United are considering a shock move to sign Mac Allister from bitter rivals Liverpool. The Red Devils are keen to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford as rumors are growing regarding the Argentine potentially departing the Premier League champions this summer.

This news comes as a massive blow for the club, as Los Blancos now face fierce competition for one of their top midfield targets as they continue their hunt for the perfect Kroos heir. Mac Allister has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, with many top figures being big fans of the 2022 World Cup winner.

The 27-year-old is under contract with Liverpool until 2028, but given his side's disappointing defence of their Premier League title, a number of players are rumoured to be under consideration for an exit in the summer, with Mac Allister gaining significant interest. He has almost all the attributes they are looking for in their next midfield signing, as he's been hailed as an 'unbelievable' player by his teammate Conor Bradley:

"He’s just an unbelievable footballer. I’ve never seen a player secure the ball so well. He’s just so calm and composed on the ball. A wonderful footballer and a joy to play with. Can’t praise him enough."

Mac Allister is currently valued at around €85 million (per Transfermarkt), which would be a pretty penny to pay as Real are eyeing a hugely ambitious summer transfer window. The Argentine is among several names linked to a move to Los Blancos in the summer, but who will actually arrive at the Bernabeu remains unknown at the moment.
