We are only in October. This is the second international break of the season so far. Real Madrid will be seeing their players go to their respective countries to play football, and fans will hope that none of these players will come back injured.
Just to take a look at the season so far, we decided to make a list of Real Madrid's best-performing players so far this season. It has quite a few names that wouldn't have appeared last season, and it also has a couple of new signings who, honestly, make a pretty good case for themselves.
There are also a few that have been left out, but not because they have not been good. It is just that the others have been better.
Real Madrid power rankings right now
5. Dean Huijsen
Real Madrid signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in the summer for around £15 million. Let's just say he has been an absolute steal.
The only reason he's number five and not any higher is the red card that he got recently, and the last two performances against Atlético Madrid and Villarreal, which were not necessarily great in my eyes.
Number five is still a great spot to be, in though, and Huijsen fully deserves to be on this list. He has been one of the best Real Madrid defenders this season, and it only makes you think of what they could have achieved if he were a part of their squad last season as well, when Real Madrid desperately needed a new centre-back.
It is good now, though, and while Huijsen has a few things that he needs to work on, there is an endless amount of potential in this player, and a lot of it has already been shown to fans around the world.
4. Vinícius Júnior
Vinícius Jr has been a really good player for Real Madrid this season. Even though he started last season off just as well, his form in the coming months just deteriorated slowly and the player became a very, very distant version of himself.
This season, though, Vinícius Jr has looked much better than last season and he is slowly getting back to his best. Even in the game against Atlético Madrid, where he wasn't necessarily getting that much service from his teammates, he did register an assist for Real Madrid's second goal, which was scored by Arda Güler.
A week later, against Villarreal, Vini continued his form, scoring a brace, earning the POTM award, and got Villarreal defender Mourino sent off because of the problems he was causing him in every single duel. If Real Madrid is to see Vini's best version from now on in every single game, then in the next list, Vinícius Jr will not be number four. He will probably be number one or two.
Vinícius, on his day, is the best player in the world, or at least one of them, and Real Madrid will be happy to see him act like that again.
3. Álvaro Carreras
Real Madrid signed Álvaro Carreras from Benfica in the summer, and he has performed well in every single game apart from just one. Carreras has been Real Madrid's best defender of the season on a consistent basis, even better than Dean Huijsen, who has performed admirably but has seen his form slow down just a little bit over the last few games.
Carreras, on the other hand, has just had one bad game so far and he has been incredible in every single one apart from that. He has shown Real Madrid fans what it is like to have a quality left-back who can help the winger with overloads and help the defenders with constant tracking, running back, and working hard on both ends of the pitch.
Carreras is one of the best young full-backs in the world right now, and the way he has started off as a Real Madrid player is simply ridiculous.
There are things that he needs to improve on, and there are things that he will learn from that disastrous game against Atlético Madrid, but apart from that, Carreras has been one of Real Madrid's best players and will be one to look out for in the coming weeks and months.
2. Arda Güler
Arda Güler has been Real Madrid's revelation this season. After seeing the majority of the last two seasons from the bench, Güler has finally found his spot in the first team. He has started every single game apart from one this season and leads Real Madrid in assists.
He has been at an unreal level, forming a partnership with Kalin Mbappe, and it just seems like it is Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the Real Madrid shirt once again. Obviously, there are things that he also needs to improve on, but he is already moving at a really rapid pace.
Against Atlético, he was Real Madrid's best player, but he got subbed off for some reason that I don't think anyone who loves Real Madrid would have understood. But it is a good thing that he has since kept his starting spot.
It will be great to see him play the way he's playing for a very long time because he is a very talented player and just a real joy to watch.
1. Kylian Mbappé
No surprises here. Kylian Mbappé has been far and away Real Madrid's best player this season. He has already scored 16 goals for club and country this season, and he has no intentions of slowing down.
Mbappé was already great last season, at least after the first half, but now he has started with a chip on the shoulder, and he looks much better than even the best part of last season. 16 goals basically mean he has scored more than a third of his tally from last season in just 12 games.
It's absolutely unreal to see what he's doing for club and country at the moment, and if Real Madrid were to win any silverware, Mbappé would have the biggest role to play in it.
And if Real Madrid do end up winning any silverware, there is no debate that Mbappé would be up there in the Ballon d'Or conversations once again.
