Real Madrid have been signing players left, right and center this season, and as a fan of the club, it has been very exciting.

They were able to move for a number of players, including the likes of Franco Mastantuono, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and they got a new, exciting coach as well.

Xabi Alonso is doing well as Real Madrid manager, despite the loss, but there are gaping holes in this team that need addressing.

One of those is the left-back situation, where Real Madrid have been trying to sign a player from Benfica, in Alvaro Carreras.

Alvaro Carreras is going to be a success at Real Madrid

Fabrizio Romano had said his fabled ‘here we go’ to the deal, and now, Real Madrid have also officially announced it.

The player signs a six-year deal at Real Madrid, and becomes their third left-back in the squad.

After Fran Garcia’s performances in the Club World Cup left Real Madrid fans drooling for more, Carreras’ work will be cut out for him. As far as Ferland Mendy goes, no one really knows what will happen with the Frenchman.

Either way, Carreras is a good two-way presence that the club could benefit a lot from.

He is not only a brilliant left-back, but also has the tools required to play as a left central defender if deemed necessary by the coach in a three centre-back formation, which is also excellent for Carreras as Alonso enjoys that a lot.

The Spanish left-back, who was originally a part of Real Madrid’s academy back in the day, would come in as their best left-back and give Alonso a lot to work with next season.

Come to think of it, Carreras does feel like the perfect Xabi Alonso signing. Strong, quick, versatile, good crosser, presses well and can play well defensively, too.

It is just what Alonso needs from his full-backs, and Real Madrid now have a great one in hand.
