Sunday's El Clásico matchup between Real Madrid and Barcelona reminded many fans of the old school Clásico's of the early 2000s and 2010s. An intense atmosphere at the Bernabeu, disallowed goals, bookings and sending offs, and tempers flaring between the two teams after the match all culminated in a Clásico that definitely lived up to fans' expectations.
While that possession and passes completed stats say otherwise, Xabi Alonso's men dominated the game for nearly the full 90 minutes. A number of dominant performances from players like Jude Bellingham, Alvaro Carreras, and Eduardo Camavinga helped Real finally get a win over their bitter rivals after losing four Clásico matchups last season.
The big headline after the match was when tempers flared towards the end of the game and then carried on after the full time whistle. Lost in the maylay a Real Madrid player was shown a red card for his part in the scuffle, which in theory gave this player one of the funniest heatmaps in football.
Andriy Lunin came in clutch with a Clásico heatmap for the ages
As being reported by AS, the referee report from Cesar Soto Grado from Sunday's El Clásico has been revealed, showing six yellow cards and one red card dished out in the post game scuffle, with Andriy Lunin receiving the red card.
The official reason for Lunin's dismissal was "for leaving his bench towards the opponent’s bench, in an aggressive attitude, having to be restrained by his teammates". The other six yellow cards were shown to Real Madrid's Brazilian trio of Vinicius Jr, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo, as well as the Barcelona trio of Alejandro Balde, Fermin Lopez, and Ferran Torres.
While Lunin didn't actually feature against Barcelona, he's still grabbing the headlines this week for his involvement in the altercation, with many fans loving the passion the Ukrainian showed for his club and his teammates.
His involvement in the post-game scuffle was his only involvement in the game, and in the era of heatmaps showing a player's performance, Lunin's would've shown nothing more than a straight, bold, red line towards Barcelona's bench to defend his teammates.
As a result of his dismissal, Lunin will be suspended for this weekend's clash against Valencia, however the club plans to fight against his suspension. This shouldn't be too much of a blow for Los Blancos given the Ukrainian wasn't going to be starting that game with Courtois not being dropped any time soon.
