Real Madrid have been in the market for midfielders for the last few weeks. They have already signed Bernardo Silva on a free transfer, which looks like a very minimal risk, high value signing that would help the team with a lot of their issues.
They are also looking for another midfielder, which would be dependent on other sales in the department. Players like Dani Ceballos, and potentially Eduardo Camavinga, could be sold in the summer, which would create some space for new players to come in.
There have been links with Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, a signing that would definitely help the club. However, the cost associated with Fernandes is very high, and it would be a difficult price to bring down, especially considering how many clubs are interested in the Portuguese midfielder.
One World Cup performance just showed Real Madrid their next midfield target
Well, there may be another midfielder that the club could turn their attention to. The World Cup officially has its first promising star. People already knew about him, but this tournament might be a good way for everyone to realise there is a star waiting to be born in Morocco.
After the Brazil vs Morocco game, the entirity of social media was focused not on the brilliant Vinicius Jr goal - which deserved a lot of applause - but the performance of Morocco's 18 year old midfielder, Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Bouaddi was a brilliant presence in the middle of the park for Morocco, and helped the team manage and control the game really well. He was exceptional in possession - with some Vitinha-like manipulation of the ball.
It was not just aesthetics either - Bouaddi was a presence in midfield that was sorely needed by Morocco on the night. He was great defensively, too - with five interceptions, six recoveries and nine duels won.
With the ball, he completed three dribbles, 60 of his 66 passes, which included a 100% accuracy in the final third, and some beautiful ball retention display.
These are the sorts of profiles that Real Madrid have been sorely missing in their midfield for the last few days, and he felt like a joy to watch.
He will not be cheap, but if Real Madrid need a midfielder with a world beater's potential, they need to move quick. Bouaddi is only 18 years old, but he moved like a veteran on the pitch in his first World Cup game ever, which says a lot more than just aesthetics with the ball.
