In many ways, Alphonso Davies' loss is Ferland Mendy's gain. The Frenchman performed well in 2023/24, there were just minor concerns as to whether or not he is at the high level expected from this Real Madrid squad. Now that Davies is unlikely to join in the summer transfer window, though, Mendy should improve.
Ferland Mendy is expected to be a major beneficiary from Real Madrid missing out on Alphonso Davies. After all, the French defender will now start his sixth season as Real Madrid defender and ageing at 29 years old, is at the peak of his powers.
The two-time Champions League winner will hope that Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez see no need to seek Alphonso Davies transfer alternatives, as he believes he has what it takes to push forward. After all, Ancelotti did previously prefer to tie Mendy down to a new contract rather than sign Davies (Relevo, June 14 2024).
