Another player to make a La Liga switch since the turn of the 21st century is Sergio Ramos. It was a signing which was completely unlike Florentino Perez, who didn't make a name from signing homegrown talents during his first stint as club president.
However, it was an unusual transfer which proved to be fruitful for Real Madrid. Needless to say, Sergio Ramos is considered as one of the best defenders in history and he is most definitely the best defender in Real Madrid history. It all came from an initial €27m investment, made in the summer transfer window of 2005.
Sergio Ramos went onto return to Sevilla later in his career but he will mostly be remembered as a Real Madrid legend. He won five league titles and four Champions League honours, becoming a master of scoring in the Champions League final, too.
