Chelsea have been the most active team in the transfer market in recent years, signing some of the most highly-rated young talents from around the globe. None of that has materialised into success on the pitch though, as the Blues have slipped from one of the best teams in all of Europe to a mid-table side in the Premier League. And it looks like one of their rumoured targets is interested in joining Real Madrid instead.
Chelsea might need to reshuffle their options on the wings next summer. Mykhaylo Mudryk's development just has not gone according to plan while the likes of Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke remain inconsistent.
It would make sense for Chelsea to part ways with one or more of them this summer, and bring in fresh wingers. One player they have been linked with recently is Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao.
Incidentally, Williams has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past. And it looks like the Spanish international still has his eyes on the Royal White jersey, although it might not be there for the taking.
€50m Chelsea target wants to join Real Madrid
As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Chelsea are keen on having Williams and have intensified their efforts to sign him. The Spaniard wants to play for Real Madrid but there is no role for him at Santiago Bernabeu.
Williams is a fantastic talent and still just 21 years of age. He is already proven in La Liga and a full Spanish international.
Real Madrid already have world-class options on the wings though in Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. Kylian Mbappe is expected to join in the summer as well. So, there is no real reason for them to sign Williams even though his rumoured €50 million release clause is reasonable.
