As things stand, there are 6 Real Madrid players with contracts expiring in 2025. As the season progresses, Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez will decipher which extensions they would like to prioritise, if any. That said, we will take a look at the 6 players and rank them from worst to best.

A quick disclaimer must be made to say that the 6 players will be ranked on their current importance to Real Madrid. While past achievements do play a role in this, there may be some players reaching the end of their careers, so they have naturally become less important to Real Madrid with the future in mind. Ranking them lower based on this is by no means a reflection of their Real Madrid tenure or legacy.

6. Jesús Vallejo

It is hard to imagine how Jesús Vallejo has lasted this long at Real Madrid. Signed in 2015, the centre-back was seen as a signing for the future. However, the more that time progressed and the more unsuccessful loan moves Vallejo made, the more obvious it became that being at Real Madrid would not serve him well.

Now, Jesús Vallejo runs out of contract in 2025 and Carlo Ancelotti should not place any importance on extending his stay.

5. Lucas Vazquez

Lucas Vazquez is a Real Madrid legend, by every definition of the word. The full-back has made an impressive 246 Liga appearances for the Spanish giants, winning everything there is to win at club level, multiple times.

However, at this stage of his career, Lucas Vazquez plays a more rotational role for Real Madrid. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether extending his current stay is a priority for Real Madrid.

4. Andriy Lunin

Andriy Lunin had a brilliant breakthrough season in 2023/24. However, he was only afforded his breakthrough due to the first-choice option Thibaut Courtois being injured.

He is a young goalkeeper with a bright future ahead of him. However, it must be said that it'd come as a surprise if Lunin stayed at Real Madrid beyond the 2024 summer transfer window.

3. Luka Modric

Currently, Luka Modric is 38 years old. By the time his current Real Madrid deal ends, he will be 39 years old. Therefore, his future truly does rest on his own decision. He still plays at the highest level and recently, Luka Modric became the most successful player in Real Madrid history, winning the most amount of trophies.

Real Madrid will definitely learn more about his future wishes. However, it wouldn't come as a surprise if he chose to retire after this season.

2. Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy is the starting left-back for Real Madrid. While there were talks of replacing him in the summer, Carlo Ancelotti clearly values him as a player and it's clear to see why. He is more than capable of starting for this Real Madrid team, after all.

Real Madrid are seriously linked to the signing of Alphonso Davies in 2025, meaning Ferland Mendy would only be second choice if he stayed. Nevertheless, it is a worthwhile conversation for Real Madrid to have with the Frenchman.

1. Dani Carvajal

One of the best Real Madrid players of all-time and he is only ageing like a fine wine. Having won the treble last season, alongside the Euros with Spain, Dani Carvajal is at the top of his game. He is a club legend and he can certainly still do a job for Carlo Ancelotti. His future plans remain to be seen, but I would love for him to stay at the Bernabeu.

Which contract extensions do you think Real Madrid should prioritise?
