Barcelona attacker makes a shock Ferland Mendy claim

This season, Real Madrid boast a perfect record against their El Clasico rivals Barcelona. Los Blancos have won both of their two meetings this season, including away from home in La Liga and in the Supercopa de España final. Across the two matches, Real Madrid hold a 6-2 aggregate lead this season. Complete dominance.

With that being said, it is understandable that Barcelona players are fearful of Real Madrid players. This is also great to see, from Carlo Ancelotti's perspective. However, it is not just the Barcelona defenders who fear Real Madrid attackers. In fact, the same can be said for their attackers.

As per the official Barcelona website, Lamine Yamal has named Ferland Mendy as the toughest defender he has come up against. In particular, he named the cup final as the toughest time he's had in breaking down a defence. In his own words, Yamal said: “In the Spanish Super Cup final, it was really tough against Ferland Mendy.”

Mendy had an excellent performance in the Super Cup final as it was one of his best this season. While he didn't bomb forward as much, he dealt with his defensive responsibilities expertly, not giving the Barcelona attackers any sniff at goal. In fact, he dealt with Ferran Torres AND Lamine Yamal very well, isolating both of them.

Ferland Mendy is having a quietly great season. The reason I describe his season as quiet is because he's not the type of player to grab all the headlines, but he is one of the most important players to Real Madrid.

A versatile asset to Carlo Ancelotti who goes about his defensive duties calmly, it is a surprise to see his position under threat by the Alphonso Davies links. Time will tell in that regard.
