It had looked like FC Barcelona were on the right path under the management of Xavi, as they won the La Liga title last season and looked like a team revitalised after a few difficult years, both on and off the pitch. But things have gone south once again for the Catalan giants and the club legend has already confirmed that he will be leaving at that he will be leaving at the end of the campaign. Could they bring in a Real Madrid legend as his replacement?

Carlo Ancelotti was expected to leave Real Madrid at the end of this season for a long time. But following the team's excellent start to the campaign, the Italian was handed a well-earned contract extension.

Before that, Xabi Alonso was the favourite to replace Ancelotti in the Real Madrid hot seat. And now, it looks like the Spaniard is in the sights of Barcelona.

As reported by SPORT, Barcelona is looking for a replacement for Xavi in Germany. There has been talk of Jurgen Klopp, Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and Joachim Low, but there is one name that is very popular among part of the board of directors and it is Alonso himself.

Alonso might be a Real Madrid legend but he has a connection with Barcelona as well. His father, Periko Alonso, used to play for the Catalan club.

As a manager, Alonso has been excellent. Bayer Leverkusen are looking like the favourites to win the Bundesliga and hold a five-point lead over Bayern Munich in the table.

When Alonso was appointed as manager a little over a year ago, Bayer Leverkusen were relegation contenders. That is how well he has done at the German club. And it is also worth remembering that this is the Spaniard's first job at the top level.
