Chelsea interested in signing €53 million Real Madrid defender
Real Madrid deserve a ton of credit for the season they are having right now. Carlo Ancelotti's side have lost just one game in this campaign so far and recently won the Spanish Super Cup, with a 4-1 win over Barcelona in the final. Do not forget that this is a squad that did not have much depth to begin with and have been dealing with major injury problems. The players as well as the coaching staff have exceeded all expectations till now.
That being said, some changes have to be made in the future for this success to be sustainable. Real Madrid are expected to sign a left-back next summer and have been heavily linked with Alphonso Davies.
The possible arrival of Davies could result in the departure of Ferland Mendy though. The Frenchman has done very well whenever on the pitch this season but is expected to leave in the future.
There does not seem to be any lack of interest in his signature despite his injury record. As reported by Simon Phillips (via Madrid Universal), Chelsea have internally discussed the possibility of signing Mendy from Real Madrid.

Mendy has done quite well when on the pitch this season. But just like previous seasons, he has continued to deal with regular fitness issues.
It is not hard to understand why Chelsea might be interested despite Mendy's injury issues. He is one of the best left-backs in world football when fit and available.
Chelsea could certainly do with a player of his experience and quality right now at left-back. Levi Colwill, who is a natural centre-back, has spent most of the season playing there. Ben Chilwell continues to struggle with injuries as well while Marc Cucurella has not delivered since his high-profile move from Brighton & Hove Albion. He is also out injured right now.
