Chelsea are believed to be looking to sign a goalkeeper this summer. Rumours suggest that their new manager, Enzo Maresca, wants someone to compete with Robert Sanchez to compete for the starting role between the posts. That has seen them being linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent weeks, with one of them being Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid.
Lunin was one of the best goalkeepers in the world last season. With Thibaut Courtois out injured, Real Marid had signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea to take the Belgian's place between the posts.
But it did not take Lunin long to move ahead of Kepa in the pecking order. He justified his place in the team by guiding Real Madrid to a La Liga triumph and the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Yet, when Courtois returned from injury late in the season, he was straight back into the starting XI while Lunin found himself back on the bench. So, it is understandable why he might be considering his future in the Spanish capital.
Chelsea set to agree €25 million deal in boost to Real Madrid
Real Madrid are believed to be keen on handing Lunin a new deal. And now, it looks like one of his most likely destinations, Chelsea, is off the table.
As reported by The Times, Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Filip Jorgensen. They are expected to agree a deal worth about €25 million (about £20.9 million) for the Villarreal goalkeeper, with the final details left to be agreed.
Jorgensen made the most saves in La Liga last season and he is known for his ability with the ball at his feet. He fits the profile Chelsea are looking for at the moment. On the other hand, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Lunin.
