Most fans believe that Real Madrid needed to sign a centre-back this summer. Unfortunately, Leny Yoro ended up joining Manchester United. He was believed to be Los Blancos' top transfer target in that area of the pitch. And despite the departure of Nacho Fernandez and the continued absence of David Alaba through injury, the Spanish club decided not to make an addition in the heart of their defence.

Real Madrid have shown in recent years that they are very clear about their plans. If they miss out on transfer targets, they do not sign alternatives just for the sake of making an addition. Every move they make has to fall in place with their long-term vision.

Real Madrid have been linked with two high-profile centre-backs in recent weeks. One is William Saliba of Arsenal. The other's Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur.

Both have been top performers in the Premier League. Romero has even enjoyed success at the international level, winning a World Cup and two Copa America titles for Argentina. What is his stance on potentially leaving Tottenham Hotspur though, where he has not enjoyed as much success?

Cristian Romero's stance on Tottenham future amid Real Madrid links

As reported by Football Insider, Romero is desperate to play at the highest level possible amid links to Real Madrid. Sources say that the 26-year-old’s willingness to sign a new Tottenham Hotspur contract will hinge on their ambition, opening the door to a move from the Spanish club.

Someone like Romero would be a solid addition for Real Madrid. Not only is he proven at the top level but also is approaching his prime.

A combination of Eder Militao and Romero in the heart of defence could very well be one of the best in Europe for the next six to seven years. Of course, it would take a significant transfer fee to sign him from Tottenham Hotspur, even if they were open to the Argentine's exit in the future.
