Heading into the summer, Real Madrid had six players with contracts expiring. However, Florentino Perez and the club higher-ups have increased their efforts to reduce that number and keep ahold of those players who have fought for the badge.
It goes without saying that one of those players is Toni Kroos. The Germany international is having a standout season as one of the best players under Carlo Ancelotti. Therefore, his looming contract expiry was a concern for the fans and, as it appears, the club.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Real Madrid will keep club legend
Trusted Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed a positive update for Real Madrid fans. Posting to X (formerly Twitter), Romano shared that Real Madrid will extend Toni Kroos' contract until 2025, so a further year on his current deal.
In his own words, Romano said: "Toni Kroos will stay and continue at Real Madrid as new one year deal until 2025 is set to be agreed! Direct talks between Kroos and Real on contract and it’s now just a formality to sign, imminent."
This is incredible news for Real Madrid fans because as mentioned, Toni Kroos has been one of the best players this season. Although he is nearing the end of his career, Kroos does not seem to show any signs of stepping down. Instead, he is only getting better with age, so remaining with Real Madrid for another year will be an exciting prospect.
Next year, the Real Madrid squad could look different. Endrick is confirmed to be joining the ranks, so there will be more firepower in the attack. Kylian Mbappe is expected to join, as his Paris Saint-Germain contract is running out. Other defensive options considered by Real Madrid are Alphonso Davies and even Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Partnering Toni Kroos with other world-class players, alongside the current superstars at the club, is a frightening proposition for European sides.
Do you think Toni Kroos will have a great further year at Real Madrid?
