With Kylian Mbappe now in the final six months of his contract with PSG, something needs to happen soon. Most people view Real Madrid as the heavy favourites to be the Frenchman's next destination, having been linked with him since his time at AS Monaco. But we have been in this situation before, yet a move to Santiago Bernabeu did not materialise then.
Mbappe's future has been a topic of discussion for a long time and there has been constant speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid. But not much has become clear over the course of the past several months.
Will Mbappe end up extending his contract with PSG again? Will he finally make his long-anticipated move to Real Madrid? Or does his future lie elsewhere?
Fabrizio Romano has an update on the situation. And it does clarify one thing. There is no fixed date for Mbappe to make his decision despite the recent rumours.
Romano drops major Mbappe to Real Madrid update
As reported by CaughtOffside, Romano said on the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column:
"Kylian Mbappe is one situation to follow – both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are expecting Mbappe to announce his decision soon, we’re still waiting for that communication – first he will communicate his decision to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, but for sure Real Madrid keep working very strong and very hard on this deal – they are on it.
“Still, let me clarify that. despite what’s been reported by some, I never said Mbappe will announce his future on Feb 14, I don’t know where this is coming from.
“In any case there are constant contacts from Madrid to make it happen. The discussion is about the salary, potential contract and more, and it’s constant communication. PSG will wait and hope until the end, as nothing has been communicated to them yet."
Thus, it is clear that nothing is for certain in the Mbappe saga just yet. It does feel like Real Madrid have a slight edge in the race for his signature though.
Mbappe joining Real Madrid would be a blockbuster move and one that has been coming for a long time. Of course, there is a possibility that it could leave to some leaving as well.
For example, there has been speculation about Vinicius Junior potentially departing Real Madrid in case Mbappe arrives. The Frenchman can play as a centre-forward and his best position is on the left flank. On the other hand, Los Blancos are expected to sign a long-term number 9 soon. Where would that leave in the Brazilian superstar and his place in the team?
