Real Madrid were nowhere near their best against Real Sociedad. Ultimately, it took two spot kicks for them to seal a 2-0 win and three points on the day. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior were both on the scoresheet as it looks like they will continue to share penalty duties for the time being. And the Frenchman had some very positive words regarding his Brazilian teammate after the match.
Of course, Mbappe arrived at Real Madrid as a free agent this summer. He has not made the blistering start to the season that many would have been hoping for though.
Instead, it looks like Mbappe is taking some time to adjust to his new teammates and vice versa. The goals are now starting to come though, whether from the spot or open play, and that is good news for sure.
A lot has been made about Mbappe's combination with Vinicius. Both are similar kinds of players and are having to adjust to the same starting XI. The Frenchman is having more of an adjustment right now, as he playing more centrally, even though he is at his best when coming in from the left.
Kylian Mbappe makes brilliant Vinicius Jr claim after Real Madrid win
Mbappe is happy to be playing with Vinicius, despite all the discussion and debate around the matter. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Frenchman told Real Madrid TV after the game:
"The truth is that we try to look for each other in the game and in training to create this connection because we know that we can help the team. Vinicius is a great player and I am very happy to play with him at Real Madrid. The important thing about the penalties is that all four were goals. Who takes them is not important, what is important is that they are goals."
That is certainly a great attitude to have about the matter. Mbappe seems to recognise that he is coming into a team that won the Champions League and La Liga double last season. So, he cannot expect them to change everything to accommodate him.
Mbappe might be the bigger name but Vinicius has earned his place at Real Madrid over the years. In fact, he is the frontrunner to win the next Ballon d'Or, a height his French teammate has yet to reach.
