The football world was shaken up as news broke out that Kylian Mbappe had informed PSG that he would be leaving the club this summer. Arguably the best player on the planet available as a free agent, that does not happen every day. And now, all eyes are on Real Madrid and what they will do next.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Mbappe for years now. It is safe to say that they will never get a better chance to sign him.
One could argue that they do not need him. Real Madrid are already well on their way to winning La Liga this season and are one of the favourites for the Champions League as well. And the team is filled with youngsters, so they are only expected to get better in the coming years.
But then, it might be a mistake to pass up on the chance to sign someone like Mbappe. And it does not look like Real Madrid have any plans of doing that.
Mbappe verbally agrees to join Real Madrid
It looks like Real Madrid have won the race. As reported by L'Equipe (via Get Spanish Football News), Mbappe has verbally agreed to take his talents to the Santiago Bernabeu for next season.
Of course, there have been plenty of twists and turns in the Mbappe transfer saga over the years. So, nothing should be taken for granted until something official is announced by either the club or the player. But at this point, it would be a surprise if the French World Cup winner does not end up pulling on the Royal White jersey come next season.
The Premier League feels like the only other possible destination for Mbappe. And none of those teams feel like the right fit for him at this point in time.
