Liverpool transfer target could gift Real Madrid a surprise cash boost
By Kian Long
Liverpool and Real Madrid are two clubs who are very familiar with one another. They are two of the most successful teams in European history, so of course they have crossed paths more than once. They have even met each other in the Champions League final on a few occasions, in 2022 and 2018 most recently.
Now, they are prepared to meet again in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid are interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, one of Liverpool's most prized assets to come out of the academy. The strategy is a little different, as Real Madrid would like to sign Trent as a free agent in 2025. That said, this is not a strategy which is unfamiliar to Real Madrid.
Liverpool transfer target could gift Real Madrid a surprise cash boost
Surprisingly, Real Madrid could be gifted a boost to their transfer piggy bank by Liverpool. According to a report from The Athletic, Real Madrid still have 50% ownership of the rights to Takefusa Kubo, after he was sold to Real Sociedad in 2022. Essentially, this means they can sign him for 50% of his original sale price or they will receive 50% of the eventual profit Sociedad make from Kubo's sale.
Either way, it's a win-win for Real Madrid. It's unlikely that Kubo will be signed back from Real Madrid because their attack is star-studded as it is, with new additions leaving no room for a Kubo return. So, it's more than likely that Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez will benefit from a cash injection when Kubo is eventually sold by Real Sociedad.
According to a report from The Mirror, it's Liverpool who are closing in on a move for Takefusa Kubo this summer. Arne Slot's new team is set to pay around €65m for the signing of Kubo, which would provide a welcomed cash injection for Real Madrid. The logistics must be worked out between Sociedad and Real Madrid, but Madrid would certainly receive a nice fee for minimal work.
Real Madrid have a near-perfect squad for the upcoming season, having gone about their transfer business early doors. However, as a manager who is proud but never satisfied, Carlo Ancelotti is expected to remain active in the transfer window before it closes. Currently, Real Madrid have a tempting shopping list.
