Real Madrid have brilliant options for now and the future in both their forward line and the midfield department. The same cannot be said about the backline though, which is ageing. Antonio Rudiger, Nacho, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez are all past 30 years of age. Ferland Mendy is expected to leave in the summer as well.

That is not the ideal situation for Real Madrid, who have concentrated on building a team for the future for so long. Thus, one would expect them to strengthen their backline over coming transfer windows.

Right-back is an area which could do with reinforcements. Carvajal is 32 years of age now. On the other hand, Vazquez has been linked with a move away lately with his contract running out in the summer.

Real Madrid have been linked with plenty of right-backs in recent times. Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Pedro Porro are just some of the names believed to be on the radar. Another one is Yan Couto of Manchester City, who is currently having a standout season on loan at Girona.

Couto might be having a great campaign with Girona. But his performance against Real Madrid was one to forget for sure.

Throughout the entire game, Vinicius Junior continuously got the better of him, as the right-back struggled to keep up with his Brazilian international teammate. And as reported by Bernabeu Digital, Couto's performance raised some doubts in the Real Madrid leadership regarding the suitability of signing him.

It is worth remembering that Couto is just 21 years of age while Vinicius is one of the best players in the world on his day. It would be a mistake to define the right-back on the basis of one performance. That being said, it is clear that the youngster still has a lot to learn.
