Real Madrid must strengthen in quite a few positions in the future. The team have done very well this season so far, especially considering the circumstances, but that does not mean that they should overlook their weaknesses, the biggest of which is their lack of squad depth. One area where they particularly lack options is centre-back.
Eder Militao and David Alaba have both suffered serious ACL injuries this season. Not only are they expected to be out for the foreseeable future but it also remains to be seen whether they will still be the best version of themselves when they do return.
One would expect Real Madrid to sign a centre-back next summer. They have been linked with a long list of players in that position. Antonio Silva, Ousmane Diomande, Goncalo Inacio and several others are believed to be on their radars.
Another centre-back Real Madrid have been linked with is Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, who has already worked with Carlo Ancelotti. But it looks like Los Blancos will face steep competition for his signature.
Manchester United and Arsenal want to sign Real Madrid target
As reported by talkSPORT, Everton face having to part with Branthwaite in the summer to avoid running into further financial problems. He is wanted by both Manchester United and Real Madrid. Ancelotti is a fan of the centre-back, who is also on the radar of Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Branthwaite has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League this season. It feels like only a matter of time before he leaves Everton.
Everton are already looking to avoid relegation this season. And they could face further issues in the near future. Sean Dyche's side have already been deducted 10 points in this campaign and face more potential deductions due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
