In the world of football, the cycle of managers at a top club can be drastically different year by year. There have been those in the past like Sir Alex Ferguson, who managed Manchester United from 1986 to 2013. However, there have also been the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Rafa Benitez, who did not even last a season at Real Madrid.

Some clubs have always had a consistent history of having top-class coaches guide them to fantastic seasons. Real Madrid have been mostly right when selecting their managers but plenty of other teams have not been so lucky.

One of the not-so-lucky clubs in recent years have been Manchester United. The Premier League club have not managed to find Sir Alex Ferguson's successor almost a decade after the legendary manager retired.

With Erik ten Hag struggling at Old Trafford this season, Manchester United might have to change the direction of their project again. And it looks like they are eyeing a former Real Madrid manager as the dream candidate for the job.

As tweeted by Santi Aouna, Zinedine Zidane is the manager dreamed of by INEOS and Jim Ratcliffe. It will not be an easy deal for Manchester United, who also consider some alternatives.

Zidane last managed in the 2020/21 season, a campaign Los Blancos finished trophyless. However, the Frenchman's trophy cabinet as Real Madrid manager speaks for itself and includes a historic Champions League three-peat.

It is only a matter of time before Zidane makes his return to the managerial world. It has long been speculated that he is waiting for the French national team job to open up. However, there have been rumours recently of him being willing to manage the right club. Could that turn out to be Manchester United?
