Real Madrid once again had their injury problems this season. The squad lost several key players early on and continued to pick up issues throughout the campaign. As a result, Los Blancos have had to rely on others in the squad to step up and fill the gaps, and to the players' credit, they have done a phenomenal job of that.

In the absence of Eder Militao this season, we have seen Antonio Rudiger do quite a magnificent job this season, becoming one of the most important players for Real Madrid. The German defender has no doubt solidified himself in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future unless his performance levels drop drastically.

Another player who has stepped up to become a starter is Andriy Lunin. The goalkeeper has enjoyed the season of his career..

There has been much speculation around the goalkeeper's future with his current contract only running until the summer of 2025. However, after the season he has had, Lunin seems to be on the verge of extending that deal.

As reported by The Athletic, Lunin is close to agreeing a new contract that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2028. The two parties are in the final stages of negotiations to renew his deal.

Lunin has had a tremendous season for Real Madrid. After Thibaut Courtois suffered a torn ACL before the season had even started, Kepa Arrizabalaga was brought in on loan from Chelsea.

However, Lunin impressed more with his performances and ended up becoming the starter ahead of Kepa. Keeping him at the club will be a positive all around. Courtois is expected to be back as the number one soon but it is hard to find a reliable backup option these days, which the 25-year-old has proven himself to be.
