The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga seems to be in its final stretch. The Frenchman has made the decision to leave Paris Saint-German at the end of this season, when his contract runs out. And all the signings have been pointing towards him wearing the Royal White jersey of Los Blancos come the 2024/25 campaign.

There have been plenty of twists and turns in this long-running saga already though. So, fans should take nothing for granted until they see Mbappe holding up that Real Madrid shirt.

Almost out of nowhere, it seems like another team have entered the race to sign Mbappe. That club are reigning European champions, Manchester City. There have been rumours that one of the Frenchman's representatives met with members of the club recently.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Manchester City are ready to compete with Real Madrid for the signature of Mbappe. They are ready to offer him more wages than Los Blancos and are also willing to give him a significant signing bonus.

If Manchester City do indeed make a push to sign Mbappe then things could certainly get interesting. They are one of the few clubs in world football whose sporting project can compare with that of Real Madrid.

Of course, Manchester City do need have the history or aura of Real Madrid. But when it comes to potentially winning the biggest trophies possible, they are just as well placed if not slightly better.

Mbappe did grow up supporting Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid though. One would hope that hands Los Blancos the edge in any race to sign the Frenchman next summer.

We will see how things unfold as they do. But it looks like the race to sign Mbappe might not be as straightforward as some might lead you to believe.
