Real Madrid have been considered as the top favourites to sign Kylian Mbappe ever since it emerged that he will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this campaign. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu for many years and next summer looks like the perfect opportunity to finally make it happen.

Real Madrid do not have a number 9 at the moment, with Karim Benzema leaving for Al-Ittihad at the end of last season. And someone like Mbappe could fit into that role perfectly, forming a fluid partnership with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo up top.

The fact that he is set to be available as a free agent is almost unbelievable. How often do you get the chance to sign arguably the best player in the world on a free transfer?

Real Madrid might not be the only club in the running to sign Mbappe though. Most people did not believe that Manchester City were interested in the Frenchman. But it looks like that might not be the case after all.

As reported by Cadena SER, Mbappe's representative is his mother, Fayza Lamari, and around her, there are at least three other figures, who act as a kind of unofficial representatives of the player. One of these three representatives was in Manchester last Monday and met with several members of Manchester City.

Thus, it looks like Manchester City might be contenders in the race to sign Mbappe. It remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola's side do end up making a serious push for the French World Cup winner.

It still does feel like Real Madrid are frontrunners in the race to sign Mbappe. But if there is one thing we have learned through the course of this transfer saga, it is that no possibility should ever be counted out.
