Real Madrid suffered a disappointing result in La Liga at the weekend. They drew 1-1 to Rayo Vallecano, after going a goal up in the early stages. To make matters worse, Dani Carvajal picked up a red card in injury time, meaning Carlo Ancelotti has the suspension to deal with in his next match.
Thankfully, Los Blancos face Sevilla in their next league match and Sevilla are a place behind Rayo Vallecano after a poor season. Although, they are starting to pick up form at tne wrong time, as far as Real Madrid are concerned. Don Carlo will be concerned since Girona have an opportunity to narrow the gap to three points after they play their game-in-hand.
Real Madrid boss responds to “unhappy” midfielder’s concerns
Therefore, his mind is pretty occupied. Never being the type to hide his true feelings when asked ridiculous questions, he made them known once more when questioned about Luka Modric. The legendary midfielder has been struggling to get minutes on the board this season, with his contract running out in a few months.
As per 90min, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he had already spoken with Luka Modric about his lack of game time: "I have talked about this topic many times with you and with him once. Enough"
This is to be expected. Ancelotti has been in the managerial game for many years, so he will know where to spot an unhappy midfielder and it will always be before the media spot the discontent.
It still remains to be seen where Luka Modric will play next season. Of course, Real Madrid do have the tradition of keeping their ageing players on rolling one-year contracts. Since Luka Modric has expressed concern about his game time, though, it is doubted whether he will accept staying for another season.
Speaking on the potential one-year contract, Ancelotti said: "The club's policy has been that, in recent years, with the legends who have one year left on their contract: Kroos, Nacho...everyone. I spoke with Luka about this topic a month ago and everything is quite clear between the two of us."
In true Ancelotti fashion, fans must read between the lines as to what he means by "clear". Whatever happens between now and next season, Luka Modric's status as a Real Madrid legend is intact. He has won everything there is to win at club level with Los Blancos and his sheer technical ability sees him as one of the all-time greats in his position.
Do you think Luka Modric will sign a contract extension at Real Madrid?
