Real Madrid boss set to overtake Zinedine Zidane's record
Carlo Ancelotti has often faced criticism from the fans during his second term as Real Madrid manager. It is confusing to be honest. Yes, the team might not be playing the most eye-catching football right now, but nobody can argue with success. And Los Blancos might be the most in-form team in Europe right now in terms of results.
The fact that Ancelotti is achieving this with a squad lacking depth and never-ending injury problems makes the feat even more impressive. And with the 2-1 win against Las Palmas at the weekend, he matched a Real Madrid great and will surely surpass him.
As reported by the club's official website, Ancelotti picked up his 124th La Liga victory and equalled Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid's second-most-successful coach in the league. He reached the mark in 174 games, which is nine fewer than the Frenchman. Only Miguel Munoz has more, with 257.
It is hard to imagine Ancelotti reaching that figure, pretty much impossible to be honest. But one has to consider the fact that Munoz was Real Madrid's manager for 14 years and in a completely different era of the game as well.
Real Madrid boss set to overtake Zidane's record
Ancelotti is sure to overtake Zidane's record of league wins. It could very well happen in the next game, which is against Getafe, away from home.
Of course, Ancelotti will surely not have his eyes on individual milestones. The Italian has too much experience to do that.
Real Madrid are having a great season so far but it does not take long for a campaign to unravel. Just look at the previous one as an example. So, they must continue taking things one game at a time and putting up the results. Getting comeback wins is great but should not want to be in that position too often.
