Real Madrid deserve a lot of credit for remaining one of the best teams in Europe despite not splashing out significant figures on fees and being pretty reserved when it comes to the transfer market. They have been very smart with their moves, recruited the right players and continued to perform at the highest level. Many other teams, with big reputations, have failed to adjust that well to the changing landscape of the game.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Alphonso Davies ahead of the summer transfer window. But now, it looks like they could be moving their sights elsewhere.

One of their former players is still on their radar. As reported by The Daily Briefing (via Madrid Universal), Real Madrid have not completely ruled out the option of bringing back Miguel Gutierrez.

Gutierrez came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and made a few senior appearances, but was not able to nail down a spot in the first-team. He has been excellent for Girona though, as the club have exceeded all expectations and qualified for the Champions League next season.

Real Madrid are believed to have a sell-on clause of 50% as well as the option to re-sign Gutierrez for a transfer fee around €8 million. Could they end up taking that up and bringing back the left-back this summer?

Gutierrez has certainly proven himself in La Liga. Incidentally, both of his goals this season have come against FC Barcelona.

It is worth pointing out that Ferland Mendy has been excellent this season as well. Initially, the expectation was that he would depart the club in the summer but on the back of his performances, fresh rumours have cropped up about the Frenchman being handed a contract extension.
