Over the last few seasons, Real Madrid have been assembling all the pieces to form the most formidable squad in all of Europe. Their roster is filled with some of the best world-class talent from top to bottom and it is no surprise that Los Blancos are the defending European and Spanish champions.
On paper, this current Real Madrid squad has all the tools to dominate European football for potentially the next decade to come. However, some believe there is still one position where they need to strengthen, and that's at left-back.
The two left-backs at the club, Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, can be somewhat polarizing depending on who you ask. Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be a fan of the Frenchman though, which leaves the Real Madrid academy graduate as the odd man out in the case of a potential high-profile arrival next summer.
Of course, we are talking about Alphonso Davies. Reports in the Spanish media suggested earlier this month that Garcia would be the one to leave if the Canadian left-back joined in this window. He did not, but there is no reason to think that the situation would be different come next summer.
Real Madrid full-back could leave if Alphonso Davies joins next summer
Garcia returned to Real Madrid last summer from Rayo Vallecano after the club activated their buy-back clause in his contract. The Spaniard's first season back at the club was a bit of a mixed bag with a combination of both good and bad performances leaving the fans split on their stance on the player.
There is zero doubt though that he is a cover option for Mendy at this moment. So, it would make sense for Garcia to be the one to leave, if Real Madrid did bring in another left-back in the future, whether that is Davies or someone else.
The club seems to just be waiting for the right time to bring in the Canadian international and next summer seems like it will finally be that opportunity for them. Davies is in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and an extension does not seem even a probability at the moment.
