Toni Kroos' Real Madrid career is over. The German midfield maestro ended it in the best manner possible by winning what was his sixth Champions League title. It goes without saying that Los Blancos have a tough task on their hands when it comes to replacing the World Cup winner in the middle of the park.

The club have plenty of options in midfield. So, will they continue with the players they already have and hope that they are able to fill Kroos' void? Or will they try to identify and sign a replacement for him this summer?

Well, transfer speculation always follows Real Madrid. This time around, it has been suggested that they have their eyes on a player from Inter Milan to replace Kroos.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, they say in Italy that Real Madrid are very attentive to Nicolo Barella to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu as Kroos' replacement in the midfield of Carlo Ancelotti's team. He has a contract with Inter Milan until 2026 and his transfer value is believed to be €80 million. A figure that Los Blancos would not be willing to pay.

Barella has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for years now. And yet, nothing has ever ended up materialising.

There is no reason to believe that things will be any different this time around. It is hard to see Real Madrid shelling out a significant transfer fee on a 27-year-old midfielder when you consider the club's transfer strategy.

It is far more likely that the club will rely on the talent already at Santiago Bernabeu. They have players like Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde, Brahim Diaz, Dani Ceballos, Luka Modric and more. Never say never in football though.
