Real Madrid could certainly do with another left-back. Ferland Mendy has been performing at a high level recently but one cannot ignore his injury history. The Frenchman has spent a lot of time on the sidelines in recent years and cannot be relied upon to deliver throughout the season as a result. His current deal also runs out in the summer of 2025 and there has been speculation that he could leave at the end of the season, with Chelsea and Manchester United rumoured to be interested.

Real Madrid's other left-back is Fran Garcia. He has not been impressive in his performances since arriving from Rayo Vallecano though.

Thus, Real Madrid are expected to sign another left-back next summer. Alphonso Davies is someone who has been heavily linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu. But that could be complicated and the club should have alternative targets as well.

As reported by Real Madrid Exclusivo (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid are interested in Alejandro Grimaldo. They have set their sights on the Bayer Leverkusen left-back as an alternative to Davies.

Grimaldo came through the youth ranks at Barcelona and spent several years knocking on the first-team door but was never able to make a senior appearance for the club. He would eventually end up joining Benfica.

It is at Benfica that Grimaldo finally made his mark in the senior game. Interestingly, Real Madrid were linked with him before he made the move to Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

At Bayer Leverkusen, under the management of Xabi Alonso, Grimaldo has established himself as one of the most effective full-backs in all of Europe. He already has 19 goal contributions to his name and we are in January. Most strikers would be delighted with that output.

Grimaldo is 28 years of age. That is not the profile of player Real Madrid usually go for. But it is quite clear that he can bring a lot to the table. Interestingly, they have been linked with his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong as well.
