A Real Madrid legend was believed to be on his way to the Serie A for the first time in his career but unfortunately, that move has been halted. In a quick turnaround, the player who spent many great years at Real Madrid could soon become a free agent.
Real Madrid legend could become a free agent, says Fabrizio Romano
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, the deal which would see Keylor Navas join AC Monza is at risk of collapsing, despite travel and a medical test being booked in. This is due to key differences between the parties being discovered so instead, Keylor Navas is now at risk of becoming a free agent.
The logical question from a Real Madrid perspective is, should they consider bringing him back? After all, Keylor Navas becoming a free agent couldn't happen at a better time for Real Madrid, with them on the hunt for a new backup goalkeeper. Currently, they are trying to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on a permanent deal.
In my opinion, Kepa is the better option than Navas. Both players know Real Madrid well but if given the choice, Real Madrid should stick to their pursuit of Kepa on a permanent deal. Kepa is happy with playing back-up to Thibaut Courtois and if anything, his chances of making the first team next season are higher than last season, with Andriy Lunin likely on his way out this summer.
For Keylor Navas too, it wouldn't make sense to return to Real Madrid. After all, he's not likely to get game-time, as he would be replicating his final season for the club, playing back-up to Thibaut Courtois. Still, he could be more open to this in the final stages of his career but Real Madrid are not reported to be interested in a return.
Instead, Real Madrid fans hope that Keylor Navas finds success in his next adventure. He's a likeable character and he made over 100 Liga appearances, a record which shouldn't be overlooked, particularly considering he was the first non-Spanish goalkeeper to do so.
Where do you think Keylor Navas will play next season?
