Real Madrid need to strengthen in a few positions with the future in mind. Right-back has to be considered amongst them. Dani Carvajal is still playing at a world-class level and hopefully will be one of the contenders for the next Ballon d'Or after winning both the Champions League and EURO 2024 as a starter.

But at the end of the day, Carvajal is 32 years of age. Father Time will catch up with him sooner or later. Real Madrid must be prepared for that situation.

Yan Couto is someone Real Madrid have been linked with in recent times after his excellent campaign on loan at Girona. And while it looks like the Manchester City full-back will move this summer, his next destination looks set to be Borussia Dortmund, the team who lost the Champions League final last season.

As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Couto is set to travel next week for medical tests at Borussia Dortmund if everything goes to plan. Final details to be sorted between BVB and Manchester City on deal structure and payment terms.

Thus, it looks like Couto is set to be a Borussia Dortmund player soon unless something unexpected happens. That could be a great club for him to continue his development.

On the other hand, one has to point out that the Couto rumours surrounding Real Madrid had slowly started to fade away towards the end of last season. Instead, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the right-back who has been most heavily linked with the club in recent weeks.

Trent's current deal with Liverpool is set to run out next summer. Of course, Real Madrid have signed a lot of high-profile names as free agents over the last few years, including Kylian Mbappe. Could the England international be next?
