Real Madrid have a number of their youngsters competing on the biggest stages this summer for their national teams. Some players such as Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe have not had the standout performances that some may have been expecting from them heading in. On the other hand, some have had fantastic international campaigns that have gone under the radar.
However, there is one Real Madrid player in particular who had a breakout tournament this summer. And whose talent is catching the eyes of football fans all around the world.
Arda Guler had a tremendous EURO campaign helping guide Turkey to the quarterfinals. Ultimately, they could not get past the Netherlands in the last 8 but that does not take away from their commendable effort, as they exceeded a lot of expectations.
Guler set a number of records at the EUROs this summer. He became the youngest player to score on his EURO debut, the youngest Turkish player to score in any international competition and the third youngest player to score and assist in the same EURO. It was certainly a summer to remember for the 19-year-old and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Real Madrid player enjoyed star-making EURO campaign
At only 19 years of age, Guler has to be considered one of the best youngsters in the world. And he is showing that he deserves more minutes regularly at Real Madrid.
Guler's standout EURO campaign may cause some headaches when it comes to team selection for Carlo Ancelotti next season. With the arrival of Kylian Mbappe as well as Endrick this summer, there is a lot of talent in the forward areas and some players may see their playing time reduced as a result.
Guler only saw regular minutes last season once Real Madrid had secured the league title with a few games to spare. Of course, one cannot overlook his constant injury problems at the start of the campaign, which disrupted his integration into the team, having arrived last summer. But after a fantastic EURO showcase, it will be interesting to see how Ancelotti manages his playing time moving forward.
